Details of Marathon Cryo Archive Boost
What Is Cryo Archive in Marathon?
Cryo Archive is fourth map and the first dedicated endgame zone in Marathon. It's set aboard the UESC Marathon colony ship in orbit above Tau Ceti IV. Doors, supply rooms, and exfils are gated behind Security Clearance you build during the run. Seven Vaults hold the best loot in the game.
Cryo Archive opens on Thursday 10 AM PT and runs till Sunday 10 AM PT. When Cryo closes at weekend cutoff, weekly contract progress resets. Codex progress carries over.
This is also the first map with no solo queue. You can entry Cryo Archive only as a squad of three, either premade or filled by matchmaking. Rooks cannot queue for Cryo Archive at all.
Cryo Archive Vaults
Seven Vaults hold the best loot in Marathon. Each one needs a specific Vault Key to open plus additional credentials depending on the vault tier.
Vault 01 is the most accessible – only needs a Vault 01 Key and 5 Batteries, no coolant or extra credentials. It sits in one of the most active areas of the ship between Index, Revival, and Control.
AI Subroutine inside is needed for Vault 7 progression, and DRRVISH – a unique BRRT SMG variant – drops there on every clear. If you want a detailed breakdown of exactly how Vault 01 opens and what drops inside, see our Marathon Cryo Archive Vault 01 guide.
Vaults 2 and above add requirements on top of the key. Vaults 3–6 use gold-tier keys and each has its own credential: Vault 3 needs a pump station credential key, Vault 4 requires colonist credentials from a drone body near Vault 5's location, Vault 5 needs a Tranquility key, and Vault 6 adds Security Clearance 4, an antivirus item, and a multi-room symbol puzzle with no minimap to help you.
Vault 7 doesn't use a standard key. It opens when all 6 AI Subroutines from Vaults 1–6 are in your Codex – each one an RNG drop that only registers if you extract with it. Vault 7 is where the Compiler boss spawns.
Vault keys drop from high-risk planetside activities, Wardens, Lockdown events, Convoy and Intercept events, and downed enemy Runners who already did the farm.
What Are Cryo Archive Contracts?
Cryo contracts come from CyberAcme and work differently from standard faction contracts. When Cryo Archive is open, a pool of 7 unique contracts appears.
You and your squad can re-roll which contract is active so everyone is working toward the same objective during a run. Complete a contract and it's removed from your pool for that week. When Cryo opens the next weekend, all your progress resets.
Each contract you complete gives a random high-rarity item – a locked room key, Vault key, material, or piece of gear.
All 7 Cryo contracts:
- Good Hatch – Open a specific hatch and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
- Up Your Arsenal – Ransack the Arsenal and solve a Vault (2 objectives, 120 REP each)
- Runner Gunner – Flatline 7 rival Runners and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
- Servants of Death – Destroy 200 UESC puppets and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
- Cache Rules – Find a hidden cache and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
- Charge Up, Chill Out – Escape with 14 Batteries and Full Coolants and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
- Security Protocols – Interact with 5 Security Monitors and solve a Vault (2 objectives)
Every contract includes a Vault solve as its second objective. That means clearing your weekly contracts also means running Vaults – which requires Vault Keys.
What Is Security Clearance?
Security Clearance is a per-run progression bar you fill by looting Security Tags – cards scattered around the map and dropped by higher-tier enemies – and by interacting with security terminals.
Each tag fills the bar. It goes from level 1 to level 5. Doors, supply rooms, and exfils are locked behind specific levels: you can't use certain exfils until you hit clearance 3, for example. Lose the run before you build enough clearance and the better loot routes and exfil options stay locked.
What Are Vaults in Cryo Archive?
Cryo Archive has 7 Vaults – heavily secured rooms with the best loot in Marathon, some of which can't be found anywhere else. Each Vault has a unique entry challenge or access requirement, and each one needs a specific Vault Key to open.
Vault Keys drop from planet-side zones - higher-risk activities are more likely to yield them. Once inside, you work through puzzle interactions while other crews who want the same loot are doing the same thing.
Vaults contain top-tier loot like unique Prestige-tier weapons in special cabinets, and high-value Contraband Valuables – items like Compiler Traces that auto-sell for up to 40000 credits on exfil.
Vault Completion is offered only for High-Reward Run and only when matching key is already on your account.
Why Is Cryo Archive the Hardest Map?
Requirements filter out most players before the run even starts.
Then you're dealing with Security Clearance gating, Vault Key management, and 7 contracts that each require a Vault solve on top of normal extraction pressure. Exfils on Cryo Archive are less reliable than planetside zones and follow different rules.
One failed exfil can wipe the progress from a long run. That's the core problem Cryo Archive creates: the objectives are achievable, but the extraction requirement to lock them in is not.
How Marathon Cryo Archive Boost Works
- Choose your run - Pick Basic Run for stable fast exfils, High-Reward Run for Security Clearance Level 5 and geared up booster team or Boss-only Run for fast Compiler Kill.
- Set exact objective scope - For High-Reward Run, you can select Contract Completion for specific weekly contracts. Vault Completion is also selected here and requires matching key.
- Pre-run account check - We confirm current contract poo & entry requirements, before live Cryo window starts.
- Cryo sessions execute in live window - Progress is built through successful exfils during Thursday 10 AM PT - Sunday 10 AM PT period. Weekly contract progress resets when Cryo closes; Codex progress stays.
- Results stay on your account - You return to an account with items for completed contracts, extracted loot, vault rewards, and all related Cryo Codex progression.
Why Choose LevelUpper for Cryo Archive
- Run type and objectives are fully customizable: Basic Run for stable extraction progress, High-Reward Run for Security Clearance 5 and full objective access, Boss Kill Run if your subroutines are already done
- Service-provided keys mean you don't have to spend time farming vault keys before ordering. Pick the vault, skip the keychain grind
- Cryo closes Sunday 10 AM PT. If your order lands mid-week, it queues and schedules for the next opening. Priority option moves your run ahead in that queue so it doesn't sit until the following weekend
- Self-Play option lets you play alongside our squad instead of watching from the sideline. Good fit if you want the Cryo experience, but your regular squad can't make the weekend window work

FAQ
When Cryo Archive opens in Marathon?
Cryo Archive opens Thursday 10 AM PT and closes Sunday 10 AM PT. You can place your order any day. If map is closed, order is queued for next live period so work starts in active Cryo window.
Do I need a squad to enter Cryo Archive?
Cryo has no solo queue, so entry is always a squad of three. Matchmaking can fill missing slots if needed. Rook cannot queue for Cryo Archive.
How to exfil from Cryo Archive?
Exfil flow on Cryo is stricter than on planetside maps. Activate scanner panel, then trigger Extract Terminal, and move to relocated exit before transfer timer ends. Actual exit appears away from terminal, so late route delay or PvP fight can collapse run at the finish. Only one exfil can be active at a time, and Security Clearance level affects which routes and exits are realistically available in that run.
What do I need to enter Cryo Archive in Marathon?
Season Level 25, all 6 factions unlocked through liaison contracts, and 5000 credit loadout value equipped.
What is the difference between run types?
Basic Run prioritizes safe extraction with Security Clearance Level 3. Lower risk, lower loot ceiling, good for progress at a stable pace. High-Reward Run targets Security Clearance Level 5 with a team of 3 geared boosters – this unlocks contract and vault objectives and pushes higher-value loot through every run. Boss Kill Run targets Vault 7 and includes the Compiler kill.
What is the service-provided key option?
When you select Vault Completion as an objective, you can choose to use a Vault Key already on your account or have us supply one. With service-provided key, you don't need to farm the matching key before ordering – we bring it to the run. Vault Keys drop from higher-risk planetside activities, Wardens, and Lockdown events, so sourcing them yourself takes time. Service key removes that step.
Do Cryo Archive contracts reset every week?
Weekly contract pool resets when next Cryo period opens, while Codex progression does not reset with contract pool.
What rewards do Cryo contracts give?
Completed contracts give random high-rarity rewards such as locked room keys, Vault Keys, materials, weapons, and gear. Reward mix is not fixed per contract, so weekly output varies by roll. Contract completions also push Cryo Codex progression, including progress toward Cryo Shift unlock chain.
What are Vault Keys and where do I get them?
Vault Keys are required for each specific vault inside Cryo Archive. Keys drop from higher-risk planetside activities, locked vault spaces on ship, and downed enemy crews. You need matching key for selected Vault Completion target.
Can I place order when Cryo is closed?
Orders are accepted even when Cryo is offline. Session is scheduled for next live period, and Priority option moves assignment ahead when map opens.
Can I select specific vaults for completion?
Yes, Vault selector lets you pick which vault to clear. Choose Vault dropdown lists Cryo Archive 01 through 04 (and beyond) as specific targets. Service-provided keys are available for each vault so you don't need to source the matching key beforehand.
What is Security Clearance in Cryo Archive?
Security Clearance is per-run progression from level 1 to level 5, built by Security Tags and terminal interactions. It gates doors, loot rooms, and exfil access. If clearance breakpoints are not reached before late fights start, strongest routes stay locked for that run.
How long does Marathon Cryo Archive Boost take?
Timing depends on selected run type, additional options, keys, and type of lobby during live Cryo period. Contracts like Servants of Death or Charge Up, Chill Out usually take longer than hatch or cache objectives. Priority option moves your run to the front of the queue for next Cryo opening window.
